Here’s a step-by-step guide to installing PVC skirting boards (also called baseboards)

Materials/Tools Needed:

PVC skirting boards

Measuring tape

Miter saw or handsaw

PVC adhesive or construction glue

Nails or a nail gun (optional)

Sandpaper

Caulk and caulking gun

Pencil

Level

Safety goggles and gloves

Installation Steps:

1. Prepare the Surface

Clean the wall and floor where the skirting will be installed. Remove dust, debris, or old adhesive.

Ensure the wall is dry and smooth.

2. Measure and Cut

Measure the length of each wall where the skirting will be installed.

Use a miter saw to cut the PVC skirting boards at 45-degree angles for internal corners (where two walls meet) and external corners.

For internal corners: Cut the ends of two boards at 45° so they fit together snugly.

For external corners: Cut the boards to overlap outward.

Sand any rough edges for a clean finish.

3. Dry Fit the Boards

Place the cut boards against the wall to check the fit. Adjust angles or lengths if needed.

4. Apply Adhesive

Apply a thin layer of PVC adhesive or construction glue to the back of the skirting board.

Press the board firmly against the wall and floor. Hold for 30–60 seconds to ensure adhesion.

Optional: Use nails or a nail gun for extra stability (pre-drill holes to avoid splitting the PVC).

5. Seal Gaps

Once all boards are installed, use caulk to fill gaps between the skirting and the wall or floor. Smooth with a damp finger or tool.

6. Clean Up

Wipe away excess adhesive or caulk immediately with a damp cloth.

Allow the adhesive and caulk to dry fully (check product instructions for drying time).

Tips for Success:

Use a level to ensure boards are straight.

For longer walls, join multiple skirting boards with straight cuts (avoid overlapping).

PVC skirting is flexible and can bend slightly to fit curved walls.

Avoid over-tightening nails, as PVC can crack.

Why Choose PVC Skirting?

Waterproof: Ideal for bathrooms, kitchens, or damp areas.

Low Maintenance: Resists rot, termites, and warping.

Easy to Clean: Wipe with a damp cloth.
